Welcome to the second Arly Knits seasonal collection. This publication brings together three summer designs, each paired with an article exploring the fibres, techniques and ideas behind them. Inside these pages you will find the Arlino, the Smooth Sailing Tee and the Arluna. Together, they explore three different approaches to summer knitting: relaxed drape, clean everyday structure and airy lace. The collection moves through three fibres that have shaped much of my summer work: linen, cotton and silk. Each companion article looks more closely at how these fibres behave, where they come from, how they have been used, and what makes them so interesting to knit with. These patterns also reflect the way I have started to think about warm-weather knitwear. Summer knitting does not have to mean making smaller versions of winter clothes. Fibre choice, openness, movement, weight and construction all change the way a garment feels and behaves once the weather gets warmer. I hope this collection gives you something to knit, something to read, and a little more confidence when choosing fibres for your own summer projects.
